McDonnell is entering his third season as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, where he continues to impact student-athletes at the collegiate level. His coaching experience spans multiple levels of the game, including serving as the boys' assistant coach at North High School in Des Moines and the girls' head basketball coach at Valley High School in West Des Moines.
In addition to his coaching career, McDonnell founded 4VLegacy, a Central Iowa basketball development program committed to providing high-quality private skill instruction for athletes ages 8-18. The program emphasizes more than just basketball skills—it focuses on building confidence, character, leadership, and lifelong habits that help athletes succeed in sports and in life.
